Doris Jean Burrell Hawkins

Doris J. Burrell Hawkins, mother and grandmother, passed away on December 23, 2016 at the age of 93.

She was born on June 24, 1923 on Government Island in Portland, Oregon to Wilbert Alexander and Dorothy May Phillips Burrell.  She was the oldest of three children.  She graduated High School early in Glendale, CA and went to work for Bell Telephone Systems in California.  She met her husband, Edward D Hawkins, on a blind date and they were married in 1943 in Stockton, California.  She was a military wife for 35 years.  Their last assignment was at Hill AFB, UT, where she volunteered at the Thrift Shop on base.

After retirement, they stayed in Ogden and went south to Yuma, AZ for the winters.  They traveled throughout the west, Hawaii and Canada playing golf and visiting family.  She loved visiting with her sister at Henry’s Lake, Island Park, ID.

Surviving are her children, Dennis (Teresa) Hawkins, Ogden, UT and John (Rebecca) Hawkins, Medford, OR; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Edward; two sons, Jim Hawkins and Rich Hawkins; her sister, Frances Jordan; and her brother, Warren Burrell.

Graveside services and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date with interment at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
