Doris Selma Irsik

CLEARFIELD – Doris Selma Irsik, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 after a two year battle with complications following a stroke.  Her sweet spirit, love of family and friends, and true compassion will be deeply missed.

Doris was born to parents Louis and Mary Sonntag on November 27, 1934 in Passaic, New Jersey.  After graduating high school Doris attended St. Mary’s Nursing School and upon completion became a registered nurse.  Doris always wanted to go West so she traveled to Denver, Colorado to pursue her nursing career and that is where she met the love of her life.  On April 8, 1961 Doris married her sweetheart Charles Irsik.  They lived in Colorado, New Jersey, Texas, New Mexico, California, and finally settled in Utah.  Their marriage was blessed with six children.

Being present in her family’s life was her number one priority.  Doris would always say being a mother was the greatest gift she’d ever received.  Beyond family, Doris was a devout Catholic, a proud Air Force wife, an amazing friend, a spirited volunteer (school, church, community), a true “Jersey Girl” and Irish to her core.  Her quick wit, laughter, and love of life was contagious.

Doris is survived by her loving husband, Charles, children Matthew (Valerie), Kathleen (John), John (Shellie), Anthony (Casey Jo), daughter-in-law Suzanne (Paul), 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  She was joyfully awaiting the arrival of her second great-grandchild in February.  Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gordon, her sons Robert and Gerald, and her grandson Evan.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Anne’s Center in Ogden, Utah.  The family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Care and Hospice for the loving care they provided.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 South Chapel Street, Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  A Vigil with Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m.  Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
