ROY- Our Beloved Mother and Grandmother, Doris McClelland, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010.
She was born March 12, 1922 in Willard, Utah to Hosea J. and Eliza D. Ward Dial. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1940 where she was a varsity cheerleader. One of her joys of life was riding every day in a school bus driven by her father Hosea who drove for over 20 years.
On October 8, 1941 Doris married Jack L. Downs. Three year later during WWII, he was deployed to the Philippines as a Navy officer in transporting troops and machinery in a LST. The "Greatest Generation" was not only our Fathers but also our Mothers. Both sacrificed greatly. Later in 1959, she married Leo M. McClelland and settled in Roy where she lived for 51 years.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the Young Women''s organization, as a visiting teacher, and sang in the Ward choir. She participated in Relief Society for many years.
Doris worked as a secretary for Cal Pak, and secretary for the Chief of Police for both the Washington Terrace Police Department and Roy City Police Department and as a sales person for Juliet''s.
She served as director for the Miss Roy Scholarship Pageant and enjoyed the personal relationships she developed with each of the contestants and their parents.
Doris enjoyed cooking for her family, golfing, bowling, and especially loved being with her grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Jackie Downs Keene, Scottsdale, AZ; Gregory L. (Debbie) Downs, West Jordan; Joni (Archie) Neal, Roy; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers and two sisters.
