Dorlene Kearl Brooks

June 20, 1935 – May 18, 2016

Dorlene, 80 of Layton, Utah passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Davis Hospital in Layton. She was born at her Grandma Langford’s house in Garden City, Rich, Utah on June 20, 1935 to Alfred Humphrey and Virginia Langford Kearl. She grew up on the family ranch in Round Valley, Utah. Later the family moved to Logan where she graduated from high school. She later moved to Salt Lake City where she attended the University of Utah and subsequently earned a degree in home economics. She traveled to Wiesbaden, Germany where she worked as a secretary for the United States Air Force and where she met her future husband Frank Charles Brooks at church. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 11, 1969. The couple traveled the world as part of Frank’s service in the US Air Force living in Duluth Minnesota, Biloxi Mississippi, Omaha Nebraska, San Antonio Texas, Redlands California, and Misawa Japan, before finally retiring in Layton Utah. The couple adopted their 3 children during their stay in Omaha. A lifelong member of the LDS church, she served in many callings including president in various auxiliaries. She and her husband Frank also served as temple workers in the Ogden LDS Temple.

Dorlene was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Douglas Kearl and sister-in-law Linda Kearl. She is survived by her husband and eternal companion Frank, brothers Darrell (Karin) Kearl, Pleasanton, California and Roger Kearl, Layton, Utah, children Ronald Dean (Shellie) Brooks, Springville, Utah, Jeanette Denise (Ronald) Loven, Montrose, Colorado, Stacy Lynn (Michael) Herren, Farmington, Utah, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law Jodi Farley Brooks.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Layton Hills Ward, 3290 North 1050 East, Layton.  Friends may visit family Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Garden City, Utah Cemetery.
