“Together Again”

Dorothy Sneddon Draney passed away on March 28, 2017.  We lost a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Born on September 24, 1923, Dorothy was one of five children and the eldest daughter of John Robert Sneddon and Ruth Brown Sneddon. She grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1941.

On August 10, 1946, Dorothy married Lee Draney.  They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple with their children in 1960. Together they cared for their homes, gardens, and family for 54 wonderful years until Lee’s passing in 2000.

Dorothy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a sweet and unwavering testimony.  She served faithfully in many callings including in Primary, Cub Scouts, and singing in ward and stake choirs. Her favorite calling was serving as a counselor and as the compassionate service coordinator in the Relief Society organization.

Friendly and outgoing, Dorothy was always more interested in learning about and caring for others than focusing on herself. As a result, she made lasting friendships everywhere she went.

In her youth, Dorothy established herself as a competitor, participating in swimming, running, skiing, and golf. As a mother, she devoted her time and energy to help her children realize their full potentials in worthy pursuits. She cherished her role as the team supporter, cheerleader, and coach. Her love for and interest in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was steadfast and unconditional.

When her children became adults, Dorothy led a distinguished career at Weber State University where she served as the secretary of the history department for 15 years.  In this capacity, she earned the Presidential Outstanding Staff Award.

An avid homemaker, gardener, and golfer, Dorothy maintained an immaculate home and garden and played golf until the age of 90.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Lynne (Steven) Carter, Ogden; Kay Draney, Syracuse; and Steve Draney, Syracuse; her brother, David (Becky) Sneddon, Ogden; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.  Her husband, Lee Draney; two brothers, Robert and Bill; and a sister, Lou Jean, preceded her in death.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Gary Holland for his excellent medical services and the fine professionals at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living for their loving care.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
