Dorothy Halls
Dorothy was home, surrounded by her family, as the Angels came and very peacefully reunited her with Ken. The love between these two began one night at an USO dance in 1942 at Fort Lewis, Washington just before Ken was shipped out to the War in the Pacific. She waited 4 years for his return from the War, then they were married on June 21, 1946.
Dorothy was born in Seattle, Washington to Charles and Eugenia Lamb on May 19, 1922. She grew up on Queen Anne Hill overlooking Seattle, however her summers were spent on her cherished Bainbridge Island, running through the woods and playing on the beaches. Her brother Gene Lamb and sister-in-law Jackie Lamb still resided in Seattle. She has numerous nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. Her sister Evelyn, brothers Seldon and Chuck preceded her.
Dorothy’s business career began in 1941 with New York Life Insurance in Seattle. With the marriage to Ken, they moved to Layton. In 1953, she opened Dottie’s Dry Cleaning and Laundry. In 1957, she and Ken brought the first pick-up campers into Utah and started Ken Halls Kamper City. This business grew into supplying Campers and Trailer to 58 dealers throughout the West. With the addition of Mobile Homes, they developed Lakeview Estates Mobile Home Park in Layton.
When they retired, their summers were spent at their home on Bainbridge Island and boating throughout the San Juan Islands on her boat, “Dottie’s Mink.” In the winter, it was off to Yuma to be with their friends.
Mom was an Angel of caring, always there with a listening ear and open heart of Love for her children, KC and Sue, Keith and Becky, Barbara and Doyle. If you’ve ever lived on an Island
If you’ve ever lived by the sea
If you’ve ever been off the mainland
You’ll know what Bainbridge Island means to me…
