Dorothy Emma Miller Lotz

May 22, 1925 – March 20, 2018

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at her home in Kaysville, Utah in her sleep in the early hours of Tuesday, March 20, 2018.  She was born in Kaysville, Utah on May 22, 1925, the fourth child of Darvel and Lenora Miller.  She grew up in the Kaysville Bamberger station and graduated from Davis High School in 1943 where she was known as the best-dressed student.

She met her sweetheart and eternal companion, Melvin Lotz, while working at Hill Field.  They were married in the Bamberger Station on February 2, 1944.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  Years later Dorothy and Melvin were blessed to serve as ordinance workers in the newly constructed Bountiful Utah Temple and made many dear friends from that sacred experience.  She loved the Lord and knew that he loved His children.  She was a lifetime member of the LDS Church and served in several callings including teaching in Primary, Young Women, and as a visiting teacher.  Her greatest joy was her family and she delighted in spending time with them at home or at the park.  If there was ever a baby around, you could be sure that Dorothy was first in line to hold it.

She spent her entire life in Davis County, residing in Kaysville, Layton and Clearfield.  During this time she worked a total of 30 years at Hill Air Force Base, Dick Adams Distributing, Bishop’s Ford, and Lagoon Amusement Park.  Dorothy was an active participant in several organizations including Red Cross, Athena Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Alonis Club, and the Federal Women’s Club.

She was well known for her fabulous collection of dolls, spending most of her life adding to her collection.  At last count she had almost 600 dolls and stuffed animals.  At various times over the years she would get all of her dolls out of storage and display them for family members and friends to enjoy.  In later years, this display would occupy several rooms in her home.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 74 years, Melvin, her brother Jack Miller (Nadine), San Diego, CA; her three children, Marjorie Burton, Terry Lotz (Marilyn), and Thomas Lotz (Sheila), 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sister-in-law, Margaret Miller, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Darvel Miller, her mother, Nora Miller, her sister, Marjorie Miller Adams, and her brother, Leon Miller.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the hospice workers from Comfort Worx for their kind, gentle and loving care of Dorothy.  We especially appreciate Kiersten, Lexi and Cassidy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville 4th Ward, 875 E. 200 N., Kaysville, UT.  Friends may visit family Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
