Dorothy McEntire Manning

Dorothy McEntire Manning, age 90, died Monday, May 8, 2017 in Clearfield, Utah from complications associated with dementia.

She was born September 13, 1926 in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California to William Maynard McEntire and Esther (Beth) Rock. She lived in her beloved Carmel until age 15 when the family moved back to Roy, Utah. After her graduation from Weber High School she attended the Dee Hospital School of Nursing as a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corps and graduated in January 1948 as a Registered Nurse. On February 2, 1948 she married Alan Butcher Manning in the Salt Lake Temple. Following her marriage she worked at Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah and several years later began her 30-year career as a Public Health Nurse for Davis County.

Mom has always loved to go on road trips and was famous in the family for finding “little blue roads” on a map which we then traveled on. Some of those roads were very rocky and bumpy. Two of mom’s favorite vacation places were Lake Powell and Bear Lake where she and Dad spent many years sharing good times with family and friends.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities as MIA president for 7 years, Relief Society visiting teacher, Jr Sunday School coordinator, and MIA girls’ camp nurse for many years. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP).

She is survived by her children: Marilynn Manning, Robert (Debra) Manning, Christine Manning Eichert, and Janice Manning Bryant; 11 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Elaine McEntire Wood, her brother James Rock McEntire, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister Frances McEntire Schaerer.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation and thanks to Sallie Huntington and her staff of caregivers at Chancellor Gardens - Connections for Living for the compassion and love shown to Mom.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fruit Heights Stake Center, 170 North Mountain Road, Fruit Heights. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
