Dorothy was born in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Luke Morris Sutton and Dorothy Helen Lindsey. Dorothy considered Kemmerer, Wyoming home, and wrote several books and short stories about her childhood there.
She graduated from Weber High School in Ogden, Utah, in 1946. After she graduated, her family moved to northern California, where she lived until 2014, when her husband Donald Davis Nicolaysen passed away. At that time she moved to Layton, Utah, to live with her daughter, Deborah.
Dorothy loved to paint, crochet, play piano, and correspond with loved ones. She had a great passion for writing family history and sharing her stories with her loved ones.
Dorothy was the oldest of six children and mother of four.

Dorothy leaves a legacy of 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
