Dorothy Hunt Rasmussen, 83, formerly of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, of natural causes incident to age.
She was born March 15, 1926 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Lester and Leda Hunt. Dorothy was the 2nd oldest of five children. She grew up in Idaho Falls and Ucon, Idaho and graduated from Ucon High School in 1944.
On September 26, 1945, Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Elmer H. Rasmussen, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple upon his return from serving in World War II. Dorothy and Elmer then settled on a small farm in Coltman, Idaho where they raised their children. She struggled with health problems much of her life. Her life was devoted to raising her children who were the pride and joy of her life. Dorothy and Elmer raised five sons and one daughter and were married for 62 years until Elmer passed away on November 17, 2007.
She was a talented artist and her paintings adorn the walls of her children''s homes. Her artistic creativeness extended to the beautiful flower gardens that surrounded her home.
Dorothy was an active member of the LDS Church serving in various capacities over the years. She particularly enjoyed her temple assignments. Dorothy successfully sent all her sons on missions and all her children to college. All of her children were married in the temple. Her lasting legacy is her posterity.
Dorothy is survived by her six children, Thayne (Angela) Rasmussen, Jay (Janis) Rasmussen, Lyle (Beverly) Rasmussen, Roy (Susan) Rasmussen, Curt (Bonnie) Rasmussen and Ann (Ken) Jewkes; 28 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Carolyn Skinner and Ruth Gray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, two brothers, John and Dale Hunt, and a grandson, David.
Dorothy was a wonderful mother and a great example to all of us. She will be greatly missed.
The family expresses gratitude for the loving care provided by Alta Ridge Assisted Living and Rocky Mountain Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30th at 1:00 p.m. at the West Point 8th Ward Chapel, 2865 West 800 North.
A viewing will be held at the church house on Thursday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
