Dorothy Alma Stewart

11/25/1920 – 06/08/2015

Dorothy Alma Stewart, 94, passed away at Wasatch Care Center early Monday morning, June 8, 2015, with her family near her side.

Born on November 25, 1920 in Lyman, Wyoming to Leonard Ray and Bessie Louise (Briggs) Blackner, Dorothy was raised in the country alongside four sisters and four brothers, graduating from Lyman High School Class of 1939.

She married Frank Harold Wright on June 22, 1940 in Evanston, Wyoming and they had two children, Daniel and Connie. They later divorced. Dorothy then married Mahlon James Leonard on October 9, 1951 in Louisville, Kentucky and they had three children, James, Reta, and Kathleen. They later divorced. Dorothy married the love of her life, Warren Sidney Stewart on February 6, 1976 in Ogden, Utah, and was deeply saddened at his passing in the Spring of 2002.

Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker and lived a long life of service. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she enjoyed her callings in primary, scouting, and with the young women.

She was a member of the Eagles Aerie of Ogden and enjoyed square dancing there and for many clubs – she was a member of the Red Hots for over 50 years and was a prolific seamstress, making over 150 gorgeous dancing dresses. In addition to sewing she also loved to bake and to share what she made, as well as going camping and fishing, reading, bowling, golfing, and traveling.

Dorothy will be fondly remembered for her hot rolls, chicken noodle soup at Christmas, and for her famous mustard pickles. Mom always smiled and never lost her temper. She was positive, sweet, and loved conversation. We will deeply miss her.

She is survived by her children, Daniel E. (Nelda) Wright, Idaho Falls, ID; Connie (James) Olesen, West Haven; James D. (Brenda) Leonard of Escondido, CA; Reta (Bill) Smith of Harrisville; and Kathleen (Wayne) Thorne, Layton; 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother Ivar Blackner of Salt Lake City and sister, Bonnie Snelson, Springville.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, sisters, Nina, Nedra, and Rebecca, and brothers, Leonard, Ray, and Kent, as well as by her grandson, Quintin Wright.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Utah and the staff at Wasatch Care Center. The family wishes to acknowledge a special friend, Bo Aaron for his devotion to our mother.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
