Dorothy Marie Stump
November 21, 1931 ~ July 20, 2014
Dorothy Marie Stump left her life on earth, Sunday, July 20, 2014, for a joyful reunion with family and friends who were waiting to greet her.
She was born November 21, 1931, in Terry, Montana to George and Emma Schmidt. She was raised on a farm and loved caring for the animals, gardening, and hand stitching. She learned the value of hard work and was always grateful for what she had regardless of the humble circumstances that surrounded her childhood.
On May 15, 1954, Dorothy married Eugene Stump in Great Falls, Montana. They were converted and baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 26 years old. She was homemaker and mother and together they raised their children and were able to see many parts of the world through his service in the US Air Force. When he retired, they settled in Layton, Utah. Dorothy and Eugene later divorced.
The most important things in her life were her family and the gospel. She always was so excited with the birth of each new grandbaby and loved to hold and kiss them every chance she could. She shared her testimony by the example of unconditional love she showed to them and to others. She cherished the knowledge and faith she gained through the gospel that families are eternal, and looked forward to the day that she could be together again with her two sweet boys, Allen Dale Peterson and Edward Eugene Peterson, who died in childhood. She is also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Dorothy possessed the kindest, caring, sweet spirit with a positive outlook on life and had a smile for everyone. She loved to laugh, sing songs and listen to music. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving members of her family are her children, David Cross, Salem, OR; Wanda Stump, Roy; Janita (Gerald) Thomson, Roy; Jayson Stump, Roy; Lorraine (Todd) Akemann, Princeton, MN; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Pheasant Meadow Ward Chapel, 4775 South 4875 West, West Haven. The family will meet with friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the church.
Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
