Dorothy Louise Sumner
OGDEN a" Mom passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She had a big heart and it finally gave out.
Dorothy was born March 2, 1930 to John and Edna Phalen in Ogden, Utah. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1948. Before she was married, she worked at Dokas Candy and Wonder Bread Bakery. She married Charles Robert Sumner in 1956, they later divorced.
She was a stay at home mom and did ironings in her home. From that occupation she made several friends. She was an avid bowler and bowled on several leagues for over 50 years. After her heart surgery in 2006, she gave up bowling, but continued to cheer her team on. She loved to read, play cards, watch old western movies, and listen to Barbra Streisand. She loved doing things with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Recently she went to a Lady Gaga concert with her two granddaughters. Her dream was to go on an African Safari, she had to settle for the next best thing, The Wild Animal Park in San Diego.
Dorothy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 4th Ward, formerly the 39th Ward. She loved visiting with Brenda and Cori her visiting teachers and also her home teachers, Jerry and Barbara LeDuc.
Surviving her are her three daughters, Lorrie (Blake) Young, Susan Jorgensen, and Kristie (Brent) Butterfield. She adored her grandchildren, Shannon, Jessica, Jennifer, Bridger, Katie, Ashlie, Erin, grandson-in-law Tyson and her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Hadlee and Camden. Preceded in death by her father and mother, brother John and sister Kathryn.
