Douglas Miller Merrill, 86, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013.

He was born September 18, 1926 in Rexburg, Idaho the son of Leslie Vinton and Marie Merrill.

Douglas served in the Army, Coast Guard and U.S. Air Force.

He married Cresente Rose Pantazes on September 2, 1951 in Denver, Colorado. They were later divorced. He married Ok Sun Crowe on April 1, 2003 in Farmington, Utah.

Douglas spent his life in the service of others. Of his many talents he was a gifted writer with an uncompromised memory. He was a loving father and husband.

Surviving are his wife Ok Sun, Clearfield; sons, Richard Merrill, Salt Lake City; Leslie Merrill, Bountiful; William Merrill, Tomball, Texas; Shawn Crowe, Montgomery, Alabama; daughter Linda Erickson, Madeira Beach, Florida; brother, Reed Miller Merrill, Logan; and sister, Gwen (Merrill) Reading, Bend, Oregon; along with 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Vinton Miller Merrill, Richard M. Merrill, sisters, Venus Wheeler, and Carmen Dibble.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
