Douglas Opheikens

November 26, 1939 — January 10, 2019

Douglas Opheikens (79) passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 10th, 2019.

He was born on November 26, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to his parents Bert and Elizabeth Opheikens.

He worked at Swift Company in the early years and later Barnes Aerospace from which he retired.

Doug loved his family but his love for Norma was something special and anyone that saw them could feel it. He was the most selfless man and would do everything for her to make sure that she was happy. They were married on November 16, 1957 in Winnemucca, NV and shared 59 wonderful years of marriage together.

He was known for quick wit and humor and was always looking to make someone laugh. He was the most selfless man and spoiled his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was willing to help any of them out when they were in need. He loved to go camping, hunting, fishing, and traveling to Arizona in the motorhome with grandma for the winter. He truly enjoyed golfing with either grandma or with his friends. He was exceptionally handy, his loved to buy old cars just to fix them up. He also enjoyed restoring small machinery like snow blowers and lawnmowers to their former glory. He will be remembered most for the deep love that he shared with his family and his willingness to help anyone around him.

He is survived by his children, Carl (Buffie) Opheikens, Teri (Val) Kirby, Mark (Lori) Opheikens, his sister Paula (Henry) Day, as well as, 14 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Norma Opheikens, his parents Bert and Elizabeth Opheikens, siblings, Ruth (Harold) Crouch, Elizabeth (Betty) (Elmer) Hill, Kenneth (Germaine) Opheikens, Richard Dick (Pauline) Opheikens, Phyllis (Jerry) Flynn, Donny (Linda Holt) Opheikens and Kathy (Randy) Wood.
