Doyle Cook Jones
December 3, 1931 ~ May 24, 2014
Doyle Cook Jones, 82, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, May 24, 2014. He joyfully anticipated being reunited with his beautiful bride, Cle.
Doyle was born on December 3, 1931 in Avon, Utah to Glenn Murdock and Cora Cook Jones. He is the eldest brother to Max (Rosemary) Jones, Madeline (Wayne) Barlow, Mike (Gloria) Jones and Nancy (Wes) Rutledge. They fondly call him “Dode” or “Dodie”.
His family moved from Cache Valley to Ogden and later to Clearfield, Utah. Doyle attended schools in Cache, Weber and Davis counties, graduating from Davis High in 1950.
At an early age he had a great love for horses; in 1945 he purchased his first horse, “Thunder” for $75.00. That love for horses never ceased. Through the years he has bred, raised, trained, raced and shown horses. He became well known for his abilities to train horses. He learned to shoe and did corrective shoeing for the local vets. He operated a stallion station from 1960 until 2009 and was well respected in the breeding community for his knowledge.
Doyle’s life as a cowboy was interrupted when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 during the Korean Conflict. During his military service he began writing letters to his future bride. Upon his return he married Cleo Beus Jones on September 29, 1954, on her 20th birthday in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they lived in Roy and Hooper for the remainder of their lives. He often said, “I use to know all the horses in Roy and ½ the people, now I don’t know ½ the horses!”
Doyle worked at Hill Air Force Base as a telephone installer retiring after 38 years of service in 1989.
Doyle was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully through the years on the High Council, in Bishoprics and in other various callings. He was known for saying the right thing at the right time, for his quiet and gentle ways, for his humor, wit and wisdom and for always having a pocketful of mints, ready to share with everyone.
Doyle loved his family; he called them his “Loved Ones”. Surviving are his daughter, Tami and her husband Jeff Yeoman; four grandchildren, Ambur (Luke) Jones, Annalise (Clifton) Christiansen, Jeffery Doyle (JD) Yeoman and Jake Wayne Yeoman; three great-grandchildren Lauryn, Kenzie and Makayla.
We would like to express our gratitude to all those who served Pa during the last few weeks of his life at Thatcher Brook Rehabilitation Center and Community Nursing Services. And for all those who have rallied around our family during this bittersweet time in our lives.
