Dr. Don A. Buswell
NORTH OGDEN a" Dr. Don Averett Buswell lived a life of service and returned to his Heavenly Father December 7, 2009. He leaves his wife of 66 years, LauRene Thompson Buswell, whom he married August 27, 1943, in the Salt Lake Temple and five children: MarnAC. (Richard) Isakson, Karen (Larry) Harris, Robert (Kathy), Keith (Patricia), Blair (Julie); 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, sister Belle Willis, many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Daniel Buswell and Indra Christine Averett, brother Robert, and sister Gene DeGroot.
Don was born January 12, 1921, in Ogden, Utah. He attended Washington Elementary, Ogden High School, Weber College, BYU, and University of Oregon. Don was a proud member of The Greatest Generation. He served in the Navy during World War II; landed soldiers at Normandy on D-Day. He practiced dentistry in Ogden for 38 years and was a leader in local and state dental associations. He combined his love of dentistry with Rotary International service, organizing expeditions to Jamaica. Don loved animals especially dogs and horses. He was a member of the Weber County Sheriff''s Posse and took annual pack trips for 30 years into the wilderness areas of Utah and Wyoming. Don was an avid fly fisherman, pheasant hunter, skier from boyhood and overall sports fan particularly of family members. As a gentleman farmer, he taught his children and grandchildren how to work.
Some of his community service involved leading in the PTA, Alumni Associations, North Ogden''s 1st swimming pool and supplying World War II books to BYU''s library. He loved Ogden, the state of Utah, America and its freedoms.
His service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was constant throughout his life. He served as a Bishop twice, served in the Ogden Temple Presidency and in the Ogden Inner-city Mission. He acknowledged the hand of the Lord in his life and testified often to his posterity of this powerful, ever-present blessing in his life.
His partner in all these endeavors must certainly be acknowledged because with the support of his wife LauRene, he flourished. The world was surely a better place for nearly 89 years because Don Buswell was in it. He loved life and lived it.
