Dr. Larry D. Schlenker
August 2, 1933 ~ August 12, 2016
Our beloved father and grandfather passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016, after a lengthy illness of 13 years.
Larry was born at home on the family farm on August 2, 1933 to John and Rose Schlenker in Des Moines, Iowa and was the youngest of six children. His parents were born in the late 1800's. His father died when he was just 11 years old. Our dear father had a very interesting childhood and adult life, as well as a life of many hardships. Though, life wasn't always easy, he endured, achieved, and had an incredible wit and sense of humor!
He went to Iowa State University as well as the University of Iowa and received a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics. During this time Larry was drafted for 3 years into the U.S. Army. He developed a few good friendships during this time, but over all said he preferred the food and farm life better back home. He was an excellent marksman!
Larry believed in God and put his trust in the Lord to be his Savior June of 1954, and was baptized.
His passion was taking his children hunting, fishing, and trapping in the spectacular outdoors in Idaho, mainly. As a scientist, he also had a great passion for astronomy, physics and the universe, and spent countless hours in study in these matters and published a few books about these.
Larry married Linda Teresa Dreyer in May of 1961. They had four children: Holly (Ralph) Wenz, Daniel D. Schlenker, Margo M. Schlenker, and Linden (Heather) Schlenker. He has seven grandchildren and the 9th great grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his brother Ralph Schlenker in Indianola, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by Linda, parents, brothers James and Kenneth, and sisters Marjorie and Gladys.
A graveside service will be held at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden on Wednesday, August 17th, at 11:00 am. The family will be happy to greet family and friends Tuesday night, August 16th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Lindquist North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. 400 E. (Washington Blvd.).
