Dr. Lynn G Wade

I was born on May 8, 1946 in Ogden, Utah at the Dee Hospital, the second son of Howard Shurtliff and Ruth Louise Gibbons Wade. I passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013. I was raised and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High school in 1964. I was very active in scouting. I earned the Eagle Scout award at the age of 13, and was able to attend Scout Camp several years, and the National Jamboree in 1960.

I have been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different Ward and Stake capacities - including working with adults and youth, and as a Counselor in two Bishoprics. My most enjoyable calling was as a youth leader, especially as Scoutmaster.

I served a church mission to Switzerland from 1965-1967. I thoroughly enjoyed my mission; I became proficient in the German and Swiss-dialect languages. Many of my ancestors were from this country; also, my foreign exchange "brother" Hans-who attended high school with me during my senior year - was from Switzerland. I have maintained a continuous friendship with many Swiss friends, and have been able to return to visit Switzerland several times.

After completing my mission, I attended Weber State College in pre-dental studies. Being a dentist had been my desire since I was 10 years old. I chose to attend the University of Oregon Dental School (UODS) in Portland where I met and married Marianne Carroll in 1971. We were later divorced, but were blessed with four wonderful children.

I graduated with honors from dental school in 1973. I joined the U.S. Air Force and was selected to complete a General Dentistry Residency Program from 1973-74 at Keesler AFB, MS. I was then assigned to Webb AFB, TX as Assistant Base Dental Surgeon. I held the rank of Captain.

Upon leaving the military in 1978, I established a private practice in Ogden. I thoroughly loved dentistry - the technical aspects as well as my patients. I particularly enjoyed and became quite proficient in all aspects of dental surgery. I maintained offices in Ogden and Wendover.

Flying was always a dream and goal for me. While at Keesler, I earned my Private Pilot license. Subsequently, I earned my Commercial Pilot certification, then I earned the Instrument Rating. I was fortunate to fly to my satellite-office in Wendover, and had enjoyed many hours in the cockpit before I had to quit flying due to a chronic illness. I enjoyed the view while flying, and savored each moment behind the propeller. I enjoyed buying a used airplane and working on it. Most of all, I enjoyed taking friends and family up for beautiful flights.

In 1997, I met Janice Fowler Millward. We were married on August 28, 1997 and we have been together nearly every day since. She has been my trainer, swimming coach, driver, but most of all my best friend. We traveled the western U.S. and Canada, as well as parts of Switzerland, Germany and Austria. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary (months!) together in San Diego in 2001.

I am survived by my children and their spouses: Julianne Marie (Chris) Huff, Heather Rebecca (Andy) Stone, Nathan Lynn (Meagan), and Ashley Brooke (fiance Chris Jarman); my bonus children Jerry Millward and Julie (Craig) Ferguson; 18 grandchildren; and my brother Dean (Judy) Wade.

My parents and nephew, Jason, have preceded me in death.

Lynn''s children wanted him to know how much they loved and appreciated him. He was an amazing father to them. He attended every event that they were part of from piano recitals to school plays. He was a constant support for all of them and they always knew they could go to him for anything.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Shadow Mtn. Ward Chapel, 5191 Old Post Road, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
