Dr. DeVan Robins

Dr. DeVan Robins passed away on September 14, 2014, at home in Alamo ,CA; after a long and valiant fight resulting from a serious head injury.  He will be remembered for his strength, intelligence, humor, and gentleness.  DeVan touched many lives with his giving and loving nature.

He was born April 2, 1928 the son of Philip Day and Hazel Stephens Robins and grew up in Kaysville, Utah.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He graduated from Davis High School and attended Utah State University majoring in microbiology, immunology, and bacteriology, where he was also an outstanding football player.  In 1946 he joined the U.S. Air Force, stationed outside of Tokyo as a control tower operator.  After his discharge, he attended Physicians & Surgeons Dental School (now UOP), practicing dentistry in San Leandro from 1971 until 2006.  After retirement, he continued to practice dentistry at home by invitation only.

DeVan is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ruby Hart Robins; his brother, Jack S. (Barbara) Robins, and sister, Alice Kaye (Thomas) Winegar, both of Kaysville, Utah; his daughter, Sharel Robins, Pleasanton, CA; and by his son, Clark R. Robins, Modesto, CA.

Due to his long time friendship with LaVell Edwards, former coach of BYU football, DeVan remained an active and avid football fan.  In the early 1970’s, he became involved in Danville Little League.  He served as president for two years and was instrumental in the league redistricting.  He was also an active member of the Shriners, and served on the board for the East/West Shriner’s football games in San Francisco.

He loved to travel.  He and Ruby traveled to many countries, including spending a month in China in 1978.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
