Dr. Richard W. Moyle, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 22, 1930, in American Fork, Utah to Myron Rowe and Reva Wagstaff Moyle. He was a very loving and attentive husband and father. He received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Brigham Young University. He served in the US Army Signal Corps during the Korean conflict. He also served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the West Central States.

He married Belva June Rawson on September 20, 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have been married for 60 years.

He received his doctorate degree in Geology at the University of Iowa. He retired as professor of Geology at Weber State University after 36 years. While working at WSU he chaired the Weber Regional Science Fair for many years, was appointed to the Governor’s Council on Science for two terms and received several awards of excellence for science teaching. He also worked for the US Forest Service in engineering geology for 20 years. He was an active member of the LDS Church and involved in community service.  He served as Bishop of the South Ogden 58th Ward. He and his wife served as Family History Missionaries in Salt Lake City. He served in the Ogden Family History Library as an associate director for training.

He has been involved in the Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years. He served in many local, district, and council positions. He served as a chapter president and national vice president for the Utah Sons of Pioneers. He was a volunteer at the Natural History Museum at the Eccles Dinosaur Park.

Richard is survived by his wife and two children, Wayne (Cheryl) Moyle and Nancy (Travis) Hall; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister, Annette; and brother, David.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jay.

The family extends thanks and appreciation for the loving care and concern to Richard by the staff of Legacy House of Ogden as well as Encompass Hospice.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the South Ogden 5th Ward Chapel, 4380 Orchard Ave.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.  Interment with Military Honors, Hooper Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Richard W. & Belva R. Moyle Geology Scholarship Endowment Fund through Weber State University at weber.edu/give or to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Perpetual Education Fund.
