Dr. Steven Edward Kammeyer
February 6, 1947 ~ November 3, 2018
On February 6, 1947, a beautiful baby boy blessed the lives of Edward and Kathryn Kammeyer. He was surrounded with much love, and given many opportunities. As a youth, he excelled in academics, was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he was able to travel to Europe as member of the Civil Air Patrol.
He attended medical school at the University of Utah and then did a residency in obstetrics and gynecology in San Diego on a Navy scholarship. He spent the next four years as chief of the OB department in Huntington Beach, fulfilling his military obligation. He returned to Ogden to open a private practice in 1980.
Before retiring from Ogden Clinic in March, 2017, he became one of Ogden’s best-loved and most trusted OB/GYN physicians. The lives of countless women and babies have been touched by his expertise, wisdom, and caring, compassionate manner. His counsel and advice were often delivered with a witty sense of humor, whenever appropriate.
Family was a very important part of Steve’s life. He was a loving husband to his wife, Adele, and a wonderful father and mentor to his children: James (Alisa) Kammeyer, Kristine (Tim) Argent, and Paul (Kristie) Kammeyer, as well as his step-children: Karie (Doug) Caldwell, Blair Hoxer, and Lindsey (Jared) Ohlin. After his retirement he was endeavoring to spend more time with his 16 precious grandchildren.
Steve was dedicated to giving his all wherever he was called to serve in the church. He had a strong testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and continues to testify of the truthfulness of the gospel. He loved the temple and attended whenever possible. He followed the spirit both in private life and in his medical practice, and was often guided in miraculous ways.
Countless lives have been blessed by his goodness. He generously used his time, resources and caring heart to travel to Mali, West Africa for several years to perform humanitarian surgery there. Recently, he took part with medical teams from LDS Charities to train medical professionals to improve maternal and fetal outcomes before, during and after delivery in Indonesia and Guyana.
He lived life to the fullest. He had plans to give much more service for many years to come, but the Lord had other plans. We will miss him dearly, but we know he is with his Savior, organizing, teaching, and serving.
Steve is survived by his wife, six children, and sixteen grandchildren, as well as his beloved mother, two sisters, and one brother. He was preceded in death by his father and infant son, Matthew Kammeyer.
