Duane Hymas Hansen

CLEARFIELD - Our beloved Duane Hymas Hansen passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 23, 2007 surrounded by loved ones. He touched our lives deeply and will be greatly missed.

Duane was born on March 3, 1926, in Eight Mile, Idaho, the son of Harley V. and Arvilla Hansen. He was raised in Bear Lake County, Idaho and later moved his family to Utah where he has lived in the Davis County area for the past 50 years. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of seventeen and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He also served in the Korean War. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal (3), the American Area Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Purple Heart, the Air Medal and a Unit Citation. He was a true patriot and taught his posterity to love America and to respect the flag as an important symbol of our freedom.

Duane married Lena Stevens on March 3, 1947 and together they raised five children. Duane was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in various callings in the Sunset 5th and Clearfield 11th wards. He especially enjoyed the missionary work he was involved in while serving as a Seventy in the Church. Duane and Lena were sealed to their children in the Salt Lake Temple on June 23, 1966 for time and all eternity. Their lives have revolved around the love and care of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Duane was a loving husband and tender-hearted father. He was a wonderful example of humility, ambition, dependability, hard work, loyalty, integrity, valor and endurance. He provided well for his family in many ways; hunting, cutting timber, driving oil rigs, sales, inspection of aerospace components and ultimately became a highly sought after Quality Assurance Engineer for many levels of inspection with the US Government, Kenway Engineering, Parker Hannifin, and retired as Senior Quality Engineer from Northrop Corporation in 1991.

He was an auto enthusiast who enjoyed every facet of the industry and was well known for the immaculate, showroom condition of his cars. He enjoyed being behind the wheel of GM performance vehicles, followed the trends and was passionate about technological advances, especially those that increased engine power. He loved eagles, coins, guns, dogs, the mountains, pine trees, studying the scriptures and gospel topics, and being with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lena Stevens Hansen; two sons, Clark Duane Hansen of Clearfield, and Dee J. Hansen of Clearfield; two daughters, Kim Nichols (Greg) of Bountiful, and Joy Nielsen (Jay) of Clearfield; daughter-in-law Beverly S. Hansen of Centerville; two brothers, Kent Hansen (Carla) of Montpelier, Idaho and Kenny (Jimmy) Hansen (Eunice) of Montpelier, Idaho; a brother-in-law Rufus Doman (Donna) of Montpelier, Idaho; eleven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mary Arvilla who died at birth, Verlene Doman, and Ruth Munk; a brother in law Steve Munk; a daughter in law Elaine Arrowsmith; and a son Brent Harley Hansen.
