E Amelia French

E. Amelia French WEST HAVEN – Our sweet Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, E. Amelia French, 97, passed away quietly on April 6, 2013 of natural causes. Amelia was born on July 31, 1915 in Winnsboro, LA. Most of her young life she lived in Missouri and in 1936 left for Ashfork, AZ where she became a “Harvey Girl” working as a waitress along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. She prided herself in being a “Harvey Girl”. During her first marriage to Richard Maltby, she lived in Albuquerque, NM with her two sons and daughter and worked for Creamland Dairies. They later divorced. Eventually, she met and married the man of her life, Richard P. French, in Albuquerque and they were married on December 15, 1954. She retired from Creamland and they moved to Gainesville, FL where she became a homemaker. She loved traveling, doing crafts, taking care of flowers, and fishing. After her husband retired from the University in Gainesville, they moved to Arkansas for their retirement and to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Later on they moved to Roswell, NM and after her husband’s death in 1997, she moved to West Haven, UT to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She lived with them for 15 years and enjoyed doing many things with them. In October 2013 she moved to Lotus Park Assisted Living. She flourished there going to bingo, crafts, bowling, playing card games and attending auctions once a month. Amelia is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Wayne) Leslie, West Haven; son, Gary (Jackie) Maltby; Grandsons, Mark (Lera) Leslie, Shane (Karcyn) Leslie, Michael (Billie) Maltby, and Jason (Tammy) Sawyer; 3 great-grandsons, Joshua Leslie, Benjamin Sawyer, and Hunter Sawyer; sister Margaret Stevenson, MO; and four nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, mother, father, and two brothers. The family would like to express our thanks to Dr. Nameer Qader, Lotus Park Assisted Living and CNS Hospice (DeAnn, Amber, Abby and Jessica) for their compassionate care. A Memorial service will be held on April 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, 163 W. 4800 S., Ogden, UT.
