Earl Elliott Castner

Earl Elliott Castner passed away Saturday, November 3, 2007 at his home of acute leukemia.

He was born June 30, 1926 in San Jose, California to Albert Emery and Maxine Elliott Castner.

Earl married Jacquelyn Marie Stenehjem on September 11, 1949 in Bakersfield, California. They were later divorced. He moved to Ogden, Utah in October 1960. Earl married Nina Nelson Ogden on December 22, 1961 in Reno, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized August 11, 1965 in the Logan LDS Temple. She died July 26, 1990. He married Elizabeth Hefty Prince on September 7, 1991 in Ogden. Elizabeth and her family were deeply loved as were Nina and all of the Nelson family.

Earl graduated from San Jose High School and the University of Santa Clara, receiving a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree in 1952. He worked for the California Division of Highways from 1952 a€" 1960 and was involved in the design of the Interstate Highway 5 from near Bakersfield to Stockton, California. He worked for the Utah State Road Commission for a short time and joined Hercules, Inc. in 1961 a€" he retired from Hercules as Manager of the Facilities Engineering Department in 1989.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1951 and served until 1962 mainly in many Corps of Engineers units, finishing his service as Sergeant Major of the 5th Howitzer Battalion, 21st Artillery, 96th Infantry Division.

He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 29, 1961 and remained a devout member the rest of his life. He served as a member of the High Councils of the North Carolina Stake, Weber Stake and Burch Creek Stake and as Bishop of the Ogden 78th Ward. His favorite calling was rendering compassionate service to his brethren and sisters.

He enjoyed the blessing of having many good friends, with whom he and Liz traveled extensively, even going to Russia.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; his sons, Michael (Jane) and Patrick Castner; step-sons, Cary (Karen) Stark and Sheridan (Jeanene) Prince; step-daughter, Sunny Lindsay; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, three great-granddaughters and two step-great grandsons; a brother, Albert Alan Castner and sister-in-law, Betty (Don) Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 7th at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley Stake Center, 5640 South 850 East.

Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center.

Interment, Milton Cemetery.
