Earl James Harris
February 16, 1933 ~ August 2, 2015
On a beautiful, warm, Sunday evening, our beloved father, Earl James Harris was unexpectedly welcomed to heaven by his wife, sons, grandchildren, and parents. Earl was born on February 16, 1933 in his home in Pleasant View, Utah to Lawrence and Irene Harris. Earl spent his entire life in Pleasant View, graduating from Weber High School and attending Weber College in auto mechanics and Stevens Henager College in business. He played the trombone, sang in the choir, and participated in debate while also helping with his family farm.
He had two sons from a first marriage and then served an LDS Mission to New England States. He married Betty Jane Hirschi in the Logan LDS Temple in 1964 and together they raised seven more children. Earl was involved in rental real estate most of his life, was employed as a typesetter, and taught himself how to play the organ.
Earl and Betty were also active in Boy Scouts, receiving many honors and awards. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings. They traveled around the world and completed hundreds of quilts for humanitarian aid. His life revolved around his family and his religion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and encouraging and supporting them in their pursuits. Earl also enjoyed volunteering in Historic Chesterfield, Idaho.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Erma Crompton; two young sons, Norlin and Daylan; and three grandchildren. He is survived by his children, David (Marta) Harris, Campinas, Brazil; Weston Harris, Hollywood, CA; Daloy (Andrea) Harris, Pleasant View; Laren (Paula) Harris, Farr West; Janeea (John) Lowder, North Ogden; Kael (Lindsay) Harris, Pleasant View; Joleda Ortiz, Ogden and his 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Edith (Ron) Finch, Laura (Wayne) Wilde, Wayne (Shirley) Harris, and Lola (Vern) Child.
All are welcome to attend a Celebration of his life on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pleasant View 12 th Ward Chapel, 900 West Pleasant View Dr. Interment was held at the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
Sadly missed. Always remembered. Forever loved.
