Earl Ray Nelson
LAYTON – Earl Ray Nelson, 89, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008.
He was born December 24, 1918 in Richmond, Utah the son of Bertrand and Luzell C. Leavitt Nelson. He had resided in Layton for the last 60 years.
Ray married Thelma Yaussi Nelson on October 7, 1939 in Logan, Utah. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2007.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ray was self employed, over the years he owned many businesses in Davis and Weber County.
Upon retirement he and Thelma began spending their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona where they made many new friends. He grew up on a farm and had a passion for horses. He loved his children and grandchildren and was always the first person to see, visit and hold any new arrivals.
He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, DeeAnn and Jerry Richins, Syracuse; Bette and Dale Green, Fruit Heights; eight grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Keith Nelson, Ogden; and three sisters, June Gordon, Perry; Vonda Clark, Salt Lake City; and Joyce Dehart, Roy.
Preceded in death by his wife, parents and three brothers, Guy, Richard and Don Nelson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 15, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
Angels truly walk among us, one of them is Jeri from Vistacare Hospice, she gave exceptional care to Ray for 18 months. We wish to thank her, Dan, Tonya and Chris. Thanks also to those who helped dad at Chancellor Gardens and Wasatch Care Center.
