Earl Peterson

Earl Don Peterson was reunited with Ortell, the love of his life, on April 9, 2015.  Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Don was born in Salina, Utah on April 17, 1924 to Earl William and Weltha Reah Murphy Peterson.  He attended public school in McGill, Nevada, and graduated from White Pine High School in 1942.  He married Frances Ortell Jenne on August 13, 1944 in McGill.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.  They were happily married for over 60 years.

Don was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.  He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in December, 1942.  He graduated from Flying Cadets on June 27, 1944, at Luke Field, Arizona.  In 1949, he graduated from Utah State University in Aeronautical Technology.  In October 1950, Don joined the Utah Air National Guard and flew 100 tactical reconnaissance missions in a P-51 Mustang during the Korean War.  He remained in the Air Guard until retiring in 1963.  He worked for Utah Power and Light for 34 years, retiring in 1983.  Until the age of 82, Don enjoyed flying, skiing, and golfing.  He also liked water-skiing, ice skating, and trap-shooting.  Don and Ortell traveled extensively.  He held many positions in the LDS Church.  Don was involved in Boy Scouts for several years.  At the Hill Aerospace Museum, Don volunteered over 1,000 hours and helped restore many airplanes.

Survivors include two daughters and one son, Kathy Doutre, North Ogden, Janet (Glade) Hess, Provo, and Kerry (Tammy) Peterson, West Valley, five grandchildren, Ken (Lori) Doutre, Farr West, Kerry (Heather) Doutre, Riverdale, Natalie, Tiffany, and David Hess, Provo.  Five great-grandchildren, Kaden, London, and Korbin Pete Doutre, Farr West, Sarandon and Dantley Doutre, Riverdale, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ortell.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road.  Friends and family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo , Utah.
