Edie George

Edie George, formerly of Ogden, Utah passed away suddenly on Monday, September 2, 2013, in Alexandria, Virginia. She was 73. The cause of death was congestive heart failure.

Edie was the oldest child of Harold Glen and Phyllis Marie Smith George. She was born on April 8, 1940, at her Grandmother Sarah Smith''s home in Evanston, Wyoming.

The family moved to Ogden, Utah in 1944. Edie was educated in the Ogden City Schools at Washington Elementary and Washington Junior High and graduated from Ogden High School in 1958.

She married Dennis L. Forsgren on June 20, 1958. They divorced in 1963. They had one son, D. Lee Forsgren.

Edie and Lee lived in Boise, Idaho for two years before returning to Ogden where Edie began working and attending Weber State College. She graduated from Weber State in 1969. She worked at Weber State University for 32 years in various positions in University Relations, retiring in June 1997 as the Executive Director of the Weber State University Alumni Association.

She married Herschel G. Hester III on December 26, 1969. They divorced in 1981. In 1989, Edie legally changed her name to Edie George from Edith Arlene George Hester.

In 1998, Edie moved to Kings Point, New York to be the Vice President for Development at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association. She moved to Alexandria, Virginia in July 2000 and was employed at the Pentagon by Quadelta, a defense contractor. She retired from that position in October 2003.

She is survived by her son D. Lee Forsgren (Janet) of Alexandria, VA; her step-daughter Shelleice Hester Stokes (Monte) of Ogden; and six grandchildren, Nicole D. Coombs, Mandi L. Coombs, Travys R. Coombs, and Eric T. Granger, all of Ogden; Heather S. Granger of West Jordan; and Christopher G. Forsgren of Alexandria, VA.

Also surviving are her brothers Ronald G. George of Centerville, and J. Kenneth Jones (Diana) of Bountiful, and many loving nieces and nephews and good friends.

Her parents and her stepdaughter Kristin Hester Hawkins preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 27th at the Lindquist Alumni Center on the campus of Weber State University, followed at 7 p.m. by a Celebration of Life. A private family burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 28th at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Harold G. and Phyllis S. George Scholarship Fund, Weber State University, Development Office, 4018 University Circle, Ogden, Utah 84408-4018.
