Edith Florence Christensen Gabbert

SUNSET – Edith Florence Christensen Gabbert, 64, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 in Layton, Utah.

She was born February 17, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Hugh Raymond and Florence Jeanette Brouwer Christensen.

Edith married Michael Scott Gabbert in 1970 in Simi Valley, CA. They were later divorced in May 1973 and remarried in May 1995.

Edith attended Chicago Southwest Christian Schools of Palos Heights, IL and graduated 1969. She attended LA Valley College of Van Nuys and two Technical Colleges in Southern California.

She worked for Pierce National Life and Blue Cross as an underwriter and volunteered for Special Needs Olympics.

She became a member of the LDS Church at age 33. She served in various callings in the church and was currently a visiting teaching district supervisor in the Sunset Utah 2 nd Ward.

Edith enjoyed pencil drawing, Southwest and Indian themed art and sewing which included making 18 inch doll clothes and donating them to charity. She had a love of cooking and baking Danish cookies and pastries. She traveled and visited many sites including Nauvoo, IL; Disneyland, Knottsberry Farm, and California beaches documenting them through her enjoyment of photography. She was an avid genealogist having great success in her German and Dutch lines dating back to the 1700’s.

Surviving are her son Jason (Nadean) Gabbert, Sunset; her brother, Leonard R. Christensen, Chicago, IL; three nephews, eight nieces, 16 great-nephews and 11 great-nieces.

Preceded in death by her husband, Michael S. Gabbert, a brother-in-law, Patrick G. Gabbert, niece, Heidi Gabbert, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
