Edith Mayhue

Edith Louise Atkin Mayhue was born on July 20, 1921 at the family home on Vine Street in Tooele, Utah. Her parents were William Franklin and Annie Tate Atkin. She passed away November 9, 2014.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband DeVoe, and grandson Stephen Browning, as well as her siblings: Ina Mary (Black), Claude, Elizabeth (Black), Morley, and Ruth (Morris). Edith is survived by daughter Linda (Leroy) Browning of Fresno, California, and her son Michael (Barbara Muirbrook) of Layton, Utah, 6 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Edith graduated from Tooele High School in 1939. She met and married DeVoe Forsgren Mayhue on February 1, 1941 in Farmington Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Edith and Dee lived in Salt Lake City, Marysville, California during WWII, then Sahara Village in Layton. They bought a home and raised their family in Sunset. In later years, Edith lived with her son and family in Layton, where she resided until her death.

Edith was employed by the Davis County School District as a School Lunch Manager, retiring after 20 years. For a number of years she managed at Sunset Elementary and Clearfield High School. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as teacher, Ward Missionary, and Relief Society President. She followed in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother as a long time member, and officer of the Daughters of the Pioneers.

Edith enjoyed many hobbies and activities such as travel, ceramics, rock collecting with Dee, oil painting, and china painting. She was an avid reader and passed the love to her children and many of her grand children.

Edith died quietly in her sleep, loved and mourned by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 628 S. Angel Street, Layton, UT. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Saturday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the church.

Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
