Edna R. Gaskill WASHINGTON TERRACE – Edna Ridges Herrick Gaskill, 90, died Monday, December 24, 2007 at Legacy House Assisted Living Center. She was born August 3, 1917 in Salt Lake City, a daughter of Dr. Alfred Joseph and Edna Hyde Ridges. Edna married Marshall “Mike” Herrick in 1939 in Salt Lake City. He preceded her in death during World War II. On January 14, 1950, she married Lyle Leland Gaskill in Salt Lake City. Lyle died July 17, 1996. She was raised and educated in Salt Lake City graduating from East High and the University of Utah. Following her marriage to Mike Herrick, she lived in Long Island, New York. After his death she moved to Tennessee where she worked on the Manhattan project. At the end of the war, she returned to Salt Lake City. After her marriage to Lyle, she moved to the Ogden where she resided for the remainder of her life. Edna was a tireless volunteer. She volunteered for the YWCA and the Children’s Aid Society. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts and twice President of the Utah Girl Scout Council. She was a top fund raiser for the Scouts, served as Treasurer and was on the Finance Committee. She was one of the few people to be the recipient of the Thanks Badge twice. Edna and Lyle were members of the Ogden Golf and Country Club where she was a member of the Ladies Golf Team. She served several terms as President of the Ladies Association. She and Lyle loved to travel and took their golf clubs wherever they went. Surviving are three daughters, Karen (Gary) Nielsen, Mtn. Green, UT; Susan Gaskill (Randy Jenkins), Dallas, TX; Judy (Shane) Armstrong, Logan; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Helen Okelberry, Los Cruses, NM; and her sister-in-law, Joan Herrick-Hansen, Lafayette, CA. Preceding Edna in death were her parents, her husbands, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
