Edna Shy Haney

Our amazing mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Edna Mae Shy Haney rejoined her husband, Brent L Haney in Heaven on Thursday, April 10, 2014 after being apart for 200 days. Edna was born on April 18, 1944 in Logan, Utah to William Harold and Alice Wanda Merrill Shy, the youngest of five children.

Edna was raised in Smithfield, Utah, and later moved to their family farm in Owyhee Junction, Oregon where she attended Adrian High School. Edna met and fell in love with her sweetheart, Brent, while in Jr High. They were married on January 12, 1961 in Lovelock, Nevada and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. During their 52 years together they lived in Harrisville, then later Riverdale, and lovingly raised their four children in the home Brent built. Edna was a devoted mother and shared her love of reading with her children.

While living in Harrisville, Edna went to work for Harrisville City as their first police secretary and court clerk. She also worked at IRS as a tax examiner and retired after 29 years.

Edna was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived in the Riverdale 1st Ward. She served faithfully in many callings, but most enjoyed being a Primary Teacher. Edna and Brent also served an inner-city mission in Ogden, Utah.

Edna loved square dancing, trips to Bear Lake, and traveling, especially her trip to Alaska when she caught a 212 lb. halibut. She embroidered and crocheted, with many lucky recipients receiving her handmade items. Edna also made the best chocolates around- just ask the neighbors.

She accepted everyone and quickly made those she met feel welcome and comfortable. She often opened her home to friends and family to come, stay, and have a bite to eat. She was thoughtful and considerate, had a beautiful smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. She always said she was a “Shy” girl. She looked forward to Friday night out with the B's, time spent with her grandkids, and "hair time" with her best friend Janice Knight.

Family was the most important aspect of Edna's life and she loved having them close. She started many traditions, bringing her family together often; each grandchild's birthday was celebrated with dinner at such exotic places as Wendy's or McDonalds and a trip to the toy store. Love of family was her true legacy.

She was greeted in Heaven by her husband Brent, daughter Tonya and son Thayne, her brothers and their spouses William Harold and Evelyn Shy, Virgil Richard and Velda Shy, and her sister Lavina Lu and Ralph Griffitts. She also looked forward to joining her parents, other family, and friends.

She will be missed by her daughters Tina (Rick) Milligan and Teresa Haney and also her brother Ralph Shy, 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, as well as children of her heart Shelly Walz, Darsun Langston, Terone and Tonya Dell Cooper, and Amy and Curt Cardall. Also, Brent's brothers and sisters, their spouses, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit family on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

We are grateful to CURO hospice, especially Eric and Arriceli who thoughtfully cared for Edna and made it possible for her to remain home.
