Edwin R. “Mickey” Schulfer
SUNSET – Edwin R. “Mickey” Schulfer, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his home.
He was born December 17, 1923 in LaGrange, Illinois the son of Walter and Pauline Guza Schulfer.
Ed married Helen on September 17, 1949 in Summit, Illinois at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Ed’s professional career found him proudly serving his country for over 30 years. Ed was involved with the USAF and its Minuteman Missile Program at Hill AFB. Later on Ed was assigned to logistics and foreign military programs dealing with F-4 aircraft throughout the world. After retiring from civil service he joined Lockheed/Martin where he worked on special quality control projects for the next five years.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elk’s Golden Spike Lodge 719. Was an active and faithful member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church where he served in various ministries. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Faternal Organization since 1968 where he was appointed as the first and only Vice Supreme Master from the State of Utah.
He recently received the President’s call to Service Award from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation recognizing his volunteer service to his community and nation.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and traveling with his wife Helen.
Surviving are his wife Helen of 59 years, son Ron (Kathy) Schulfer, daughter Kimberly (Thorsten) Beger, three grandsons, Ryan, Brandon and Cory Schulfer and one granddaughter, Katya Beger.
Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Walter, Leonard and Raymond Schulfer.
The family would like to thank the members of the Alpine Hospice Team, Sue, Dameon, Amy and Fred.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 9 a.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 South Chapel Street, Layton, Utah. Friends and family may call Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road.
Military Honors will be accorded.
