Captain Edwin R. Wallace SC, US Navy (Retired) died Thursday, August 11, 2011. He was born December 17, 1930 in Dallas, Texas to Roland Lester and Mabel L. Wallace.

Captain Wallace spent most of his youth in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1948. He attended North Texas State College from 1948 to 1950. In 1950 at the beginning of the Korean War, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1954. His duty stations during this time included Air Transport Squadron Five and the aircraft carrier USS Leyte CV-32. In 1953, while in Boston, MA aboard the Leyte he met Helen Norrine Nichols and they were married July 11, 1954 in the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Sommerville, MA.

After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. Following his graduation he returned to the Navy and in May 1957, was commissioned as an Ensign through the Officers Candidate School, Newport, RI.

Captain Wallace attended the Navy Supply Corps School and on completion was ordered to his first afloat assignment aboard the USS Thaddeus Parker DE-369. Significant assignments during his thirty-one year career were the Polaris Missile Facility, Bangor WA, the Fast Combat Support Ship USS Camden AOE-2, Headquarters Defense Logistics Agency and Commander, Task Force Seventy-Three US Pacific Fleet. He was a graduate of the Navy Postgraduate School where he earned a Master of Science Degree. He also attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI. In 1978 he was assigned to the Defense Depot Ogden Utah as Director of Distribution and in 1981 was assigned as Commander, Defense Reutilization and Marketing Region at DDOU.

Captain Wallace''s personal decorations included the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal and numerous service and campaign medals and ribbons.

After his retirement from the U.S. Navy in July 1984, Captain Wallace worked with the Lockheed Space Operations Company, Vandenburg AFB in the Air Force Space Shuttle program and later worked with Thiokol Propulsion at the Promontory Facility. He taught Logistics Management courses at Weber State University. He entered the Proposal Management field and worked on many Defense Department proposals including the Navy Arsenal Ship development, the Navy DD-21 project and the Department of Defense Joint Strike Fighter program.

Captain Wallace was active in the local community serving on the Executive Board of the Military Affairs Committee, Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce; Northern Utah Chairman of the Department of Defense Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; President, Northern Utah Council of the Navy League of the US and later became the Utah State President of the Navy League. He was active in the Ogden Rotary Club and was a founding member of St. Florence Catholic Church in Huntsville, Utah.

He was an amazing Husband, Father, Grand Father, and Friend. His Love of God, Country and Family was a living example to All.

Captain Wallace is survived by his daughters, Vicki Lynn (Doug) Hill, Susan Kay (Michael) Hoffman and Julie Ann (Thomas) Wolfe, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, parents, and infant daughter, Amy Marie.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 15, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the St. Florence Catholic Church, 6461 E. Hwy 39, Huntsville. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Rosary will be held at 8 p.m. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, So. Ogden.
