Eelje M. Newell
OGDEN – Eelje Martin Newell, 67, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009 of complications due to many lingering health problems.
She was born April 22, 1941 in Ogden, to Francis E. and Faye Post Martin. She attended Ben Lomond High School graduating in 1959.
Eelje married Edward Lee McCully in 1960. Their son, Edward Francis McCully was born in August of 1961 and in September of 1961 Edward Lee was killed in an automobile accident. Eelje married James L. Rea and their son, Michael Rea, was born in February of 1969. They later divorced. In 1981, she met and married George A. Newell, the love of her life. George later adopted Michael and they were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple. George passed away in 1995. In 1999, Eelje’s son, Ed, was killed in an automobile accident in Sheridan, Wyoming.
She retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1995 following 30 years of service.
Surviving are her son, Michael A. Newell, two sisters, Faye M. Hayes, Marie (Kevin) Smith, both of St. George; two brothers, Frank (Kathleen) Martin, Washington, UT; Paul (Joanne) Brinkman, Ogden; and her very special grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews that she loved deeply.
Preceding Eelje in death were her husbands, George A. Newell and Edward L. McCully, her son, Edward F. McCully, her parents, Francis and Faye Martin, and one brother-in-law, Gilbert B. Hayes.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
