Eiko Tsukamoto Sato
Eiko Tsukamoto Sato, age 91, peacefully passed away on Sunday evening, January 20, 2013, at her home. She was born on October 30, 1921 to Tsunekichi and Saki Tsukamoto in Ogden. She was the fourth of their five children. Her parents farmed, so all of the children learned the meaning of hard work at an early age.
She attended Ogden City schools graduating from Ogden High School in 1939, their second graduating class.
Eiko married Kazuo Sato on August 16, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were married for 63 years. He passed away on November 2, 2006.
She was a stay at home Mom but not during the farming season. She worked on her parent''s farm during the week and her in-laws farm on the weekend. She was still able to keep a wonderful home for her husband and children.
After her children were grown, she went to work as an alterations seamstress. She worked for Pullman Tailors for many years where she made a lifelong friendship with owner, Jerry Pullman and his family. She also worked for ZCMI and Macy''s department stores in their men''s tailor shop where, again, she made many lifelong friends.
Eiko played the violin during her school years, being part of Ogden High School orchestra. She loved music and she made sure that her children took piano lessons. She loved to travel. She and Kaz traveled to Japan and met many of their relatives. She also was able to travel throughout the United States with Kaz and her children.
She was a lifelong member of the Ogden Japanese Christian Church.
Eiko is survived by her three children, Elaine and Ronald Patterson of Ogden; Alan and Penny Sato of Roy, and John and Kristie Sato of St. George; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; older brother, Charles Tsukamoto of Ogden and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; sisters, Jean Teruko Tsukamoto and Miyo Yamashita; and her brother, Jiro Tsukamoto.
The family wishes to thank the following people who helped her during the last few months of her life: Dr. Kathleen DeRemer, Veda and Corey, Dr. Gregory Almony, Dr. Carl Gray, and Dr. Joseph Graham, the nursing staff at Ogden Regional Hospital 3rd floor, especially Joyce, and the whole staff at Utah Hematology and Oncology, especially Mary Almony and Jan Davis. The family wishes to recognize the special relationship Eiko had with her second family''s: Dennis and Mitzie Yamashita and their children Michael and Annalynn Yamashita, Nathan and Heidi Hiatt, and AJ and Lisa Lawrence, her next door neighbor Kevin Olney and his sons Jason, Keli, and Matthew, and her other neighbors Don Berryman, and Paul and Kathy Young. During her life, she made many friends and through her work as an alterations seamstress, she had the opportunity to not only alter and mend their clothes, but helped them, when needed, mend their lives. There are too many names to list, but you all know who you are.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Ogden Japanese Christian Church, 580 23rd Street, with Rev. Jill Minnich officiating. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Saturday from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
