Eileen Christensen Cooke, 79, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 surrounded by her family at McKay-Dee Hospital.
She was born January 17, 1932 in Hooper, Utah to Leonard and Jennie Christensen. Eileen was a life-long resident of Hooper and attended Weber County Schools, graduating from Weber High School in 1950.
On December 6, 1950, Eileen married Vernon LaMar Cooke in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were best friends and sweethearts for 55 years until his death in December 2005.
Eileen''s greatest joys in life came from her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored her family and loved her home.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many capacities and truly loved those she served. She had a great love of the Savior.
Eileen had a beautiful singing voice and a love of music. She and LaMar sang together at many events including church, funerals, and socials. In her younger years, she and LaMar enjoyed square dancing with friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching old movies and musicals.
Eileen was a beloved wife, mom, grandma and aunt. She cherished her family and friends. She enjoyed doing for others and had a great concern for their well-being. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her children, Guy (Sandra) Cooke, Bend, OR; Cathy (John) Reynolds, Layton; Duane (Janette) Cooke, Layton; Kerry (Kellie) Cooke, Hooper; Marla (J.C.) Price, Idaho Falls, ID; Chris Cooke, Hooper; two brothers, Val (Ruth Ann) Christensen, Bountiful; Allan (Annette) Christensen, Hooper; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; and a special son, Glenn (Elaine) Vogel, Dover, OH. She was a caring foster mother to Tracie Lynn Joe, Leonard Kellywood and Myra Yellowhorse.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Lynn and Leonard.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7th at 1:00 p.m. at the Hooper LDS Stake Center, 5375 South 5900 West.
The family will meet with friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks to doctors and staff at the McKay-Dee Hospital and Vista Care Hospice and Dr. Gary Christensen, her personal physician and friend of many years. Gratitude is also expressed to many friends and neighbors who have shown their kindness and love.
If preferred, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humanitarian Aid or General Missionary Funds of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints.
