Elaine Bell Atkinson, 87, died surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 12, 2009.

She was born December 2, 1921 in Marriott, Utah, a daughter of Robert Wilson and Ethel Elsie Butler Bell. She was reared and educated in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1940.

Elaine married Blaine Holliday Atkinson on June 22, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Elaine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the time of her death she was a member of the Taylor 1st Ward. She served in many callings both ward and stake. She taught Sunday School, MIA, Primary, Relief Society, and was a Relief Society Visiting Teacher. She served as the coordinator in Junior Sunday School, a counselor in YWMIA and Relief Society, President of YWMIA, and counselor in the Weber North Stake YWMIA Presidency. She had been an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for over 30 years. She resigned due to health limitations but still attended the temple once a week. Her service in the Temple was a blessing to her and her family.

She worked at Hill Air Force Base for over 20 years. At the time of her retirement in 1974, she was an Editorial Assistant in the Technical Data Branch. She received several Sustained Superior Performance Ratings, a Quality Step Increase and a Bronze and Silver Zero Defects Recognition.

Elaine loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She was always a hard worker.

Surviving are her husband, Blaine, of Taylor; three sons and one daughter, Mike and Nedra Atkinson, Taylor, UT; Brent and Celeste Atkinson, Brookside, UT; Sandy and Ross Ransom, Ivins, UT; Jeff and Shirley Atkinson, Ogden, UT; 23 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is one brother, Kenneth G. (Donna) Bell, Lehi, UT; a sister, Peggy Burningham, Boise, ID; sister-in-law, Ida May Bell, Long Beach, CA; brother-in-law, Glen Foster, Layton, UT; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two sisters, and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Ogden West Stake Center, 2200 South 4300 West in Taylor.

Friends may call at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the Stake Center 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
