LAYTON - Elaine Farnsworth Bettridge, age 73, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 of pancreatitis which caused her heart to fail.

Born November 19, 1935 in Salt Lake City, to Franklin Dennis and Venola Whitehead Farnsworth. She married Thomas Gerald Bettridge February 19, 1960 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.

Elaine was raised in the Salt Lake area and graduated from Jordan High School. She enjoyed singing and had been a member of the Utah Oratorio Society, the Ogden Symphonic Choir as well as many other singing groups.

She was active in art groups including the Western Art Guild, Layton Arts Council, Utah Watercolor Society, Great Basin Artist and Intermountain Society of Artists. She received much recognition and sold many of her works throughout the area. She loved gardening and enjoyed making the world a better and lovelier place.

Elaine enjoyed working throughout her life. For many years she and her husband owned and managed ''Pop N'' Stop'' in the Layton Hills Mall and after selling the shop she worked at ZCMI/Macy''s.

Elaine was an active member of the Adams Park Ward in Layton and received many blessings through service as a teacher. She was a leader in the Primary, Cub Scouts, Young Women''s and Relief Society.

Through her love of studying she learned to know, honor, love and revere her Heavenly Father. She was blessed with an inborn sense of honesty, integrity, compassion, fairness and generosity.

Elaine and Gerry''s five children, fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren were her joy and treasure; they gave her much laughter and happiness through the years. Her principle interest centered in family and her happiest times were spent at home where she lovingly nurtured family and friends. She loved to comfort and attended to the needs of others and felt their pain and joy deeply. Her house was a house of order, love, laughter and a haven of peace and calm. She took great satisfaction in raising a righteous, hard working and responsible family. They were the "light of her life".
