Elaine Joyce Higley Fowers

Elaine Joyce Higley Fowers passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021. She was born February 4, 1930 to Leland Ray and Ruth Marie Smith Higley in Ogden UT. Her sister and brothers are Betty Jean, Monte, Gary and Don. She attended elementary grade school in West Ogden, Utah; she moved to Hooper at the age of 9. She attended Hooper School through the 10th grade. She graduated from Weber High School Class of 1948.
She was 1st attendant to Miss Hooper Tomato Day Queen.
She married Ralph C. Fowers on June 24, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away May 23rd 1986. She had three lovely daughters; RaLane, Kathy and Dianne.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has been active in the 1st, 3rd, and 8th Wards and is now in the Park Ward. She held many church callings, the Primary, Secretary for the Sunday School and was called to serve as the ward Librarian.
She worked at the Thomas Dee Memorial Hospital in the Business Office. And when the McKay-Dee Hospital was built she worked in the Business Office and was a Supervisor there. Then she went to Hill Air Force Base and worked there and was a Lead Item Manager over the F-16’s where she earned many awards and retired at the age of 81.
She also did some traveling; her favorite places were the Church History Tour, California, Disneyland and Disneyworld and a trip to the Bahama’s. She went to Germany and Hawaii. While in Germany she had the opportunity to go to the Frankfurt Temple and to Ramstein Air Base. She enjoyed a trip to Hawaii with her daughter Kathy. She loved visiting all these places and had a wonderful time.
Her hobbies included: sewing, embroidery and crochet. She made many, many dresses for herself and her daughters; including making many bridesmaid dresses for her daughters’ weddings.
She is survived by: RaLane (Dale) Spaulding, Kathy (Bruce) Taylor, and Dianne Crawford. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren: Tana, Hollie, Alan, Matt, Jeff, Dave, Bradley, Jessica, Janalyn, Clint, Tara and Sara. She was blessed with 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Also survived by sister, Betty Jean Jackson, brothers: Monte Ray Higley and Gary Lee Higley, she is survived by many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Don Higley and great-grandson Tanner Wolfe.
Elaine always said,” I have been well blessed in my life with a wonderful husband, daughters, family, friends and good health.”
For the past 30 years Elaine has went to the same hair dresser, Mandie Openshaw, every Friday. We want to thank Mandie for all the love she has shown our Mom! And the special care she showed Elaine and Kathy that last Friday!
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 1, 2021 at the Hooper 3rd/ Park Ward Chapel, 5600 South 6300 West. The family will meet with friends Monday from 12 – 1:45 p.m. at the church. Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
