Elaine Dye Penrod

May 7, 1934 ~ July 21, 2017

Elaine Dye Penrod, 83, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2017.  Born May 7, 1934 in Ogden, Utah to Joseph Earl and Sarah Stoddard Dye, she grew up in Uintah, Utah, and graduated from Weber High School in 1952. Elaine had many hobbies such as quilting, sewing and lace making. Throughout her life, she particularly enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for countless family gatherings that often extended throughout the day.  She also preferred canning her own fruits and vegetables.

Elaine married George Gary Penrod in Ogden on August 6, 1954. Gary’s Navy service took the couple to Boston, Massachusetts for a few years, creating many fond memories of life there.   After returning to Ogden, they started a family of five children.  Gary’s employment also took the family to Cumberland, Maryland, and then to San Antonio, Texas, where they spent several years before returning again to Ogden. In the 1970’s she and Gary had two more children, ensuring that an empty nest was still years away.

As much as possible, Elaine stayed home and raised her children, but she also worked for the Ogden City School District and McKay-Dee Hospital. She, Gary, his brother Kay and wife Kathy owned the Stockman’s Café and Depot Grocery for some years, where she worked hard as a small business owner, doing whatever needed to be done.

In her later years, Elaine liked to read and travel.  Highlights of her trips included visits to Yosemite National Park, Vancouver, Canada and Brisbane, Australia.  She also liked to spend time with good friends Rene Hilman, Doris Campbell and Karna Miller.  She was a member of the LDS Church and for the last thirty years, enjoyed visiting with her home teachers, Berta Richins and Sharon Tomlinson.

Elaine will be remembered by many for her kindness and generosity, and the love and support of her children. Above everything, she was a mother.  We, her children, owe her everything, and we will love her forever. She is survived by her husband, Gary; and their children, Brice, Jeff (Debra), Todd, Jason (Anne), Joan, Jenny (Aaron) Rowland; 13 grandchildren, Jessica, Jamie, Shannon, Joel, Whitney, Jordan, Corinne, Logan, Nick, Cole, Milo, Alana, Aiden; and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Penrod Guida, daughter-in-law, Kendra Royster Penrod, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday July 28, 2017 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. The family will meet with friends on Thursday, July 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
