Elaine Shields

LAYTON – Elaine H. Shields, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and loving wife passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.

She was born July 3, 1928 in Wallsburg, Utah to John P. Heward and Elsie Marie Burckhart, the ninth child of eleven children. She attended the Old Lincoln Elementary school and later graduated from Park City High School.

Elaine and Lewis Glenn met at the Orange Blossom Confectionary in Park City and dated until he joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. After Glenn returned with his Honorable Discharge, they were married on October 23, 1947 at the Salt Lake City and County building. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Elaine and Glenn Moved to Layton, Utah with their first son Ronald Glenn in the early 1950’s. A second son was born in 1951 whom they named David Brent. A short time later they moved to West Layton and lived for four years and then moved to their home on Gordon Ave. in which they lived for 45 years. Their third son Brian Edward was born while living there.

Elaine found work as a dental assistant with Dr. Roger Felt, working until she retired after about 30 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings mostly with the young children and the youth.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lewis Glenn Shields, sons Ronald Glenn (Nancy) of Layton and Brian Edward (Cheryle) of West Bountiful. She is also survived by her loving sister Flora Knipfer of Burbank, Illinois, Many wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, four sisters and her son David Brent (Debbie) of Layton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at11:00 a.m. at the Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton.
