Elaine Russell Stephens

SOUTH OGDEN – Elaine Russell Stephens, 89, passed away on July 14, 2014 of causes incident to age. She was born on November 7, 1924 to Jessie Lewis and Eva Forrest Russell. She graduated from Weber High School. She married Douglas Browning Stephens on June 25, 1945. After marriage she and her husband built Pleasant Valley Ranch, which has become a large portion of South Ogden City.
During the war she worked at Hill Air Force Base where she learned the library system. Her love of the library continued on as a lifelong passion. She worked and volunteered at the Weber County Library for many years. There she made many lifelong friendships. The art gallery in the Pleasant Valley Branch is named in her honor. She passed this love onto her children and grandchildren, who are also book lovers and have a great love of learning.
She was an accomplished golfer, and twice made a hole in one, and had many bowling trophies. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she taught primary for many years and was always helping others with her generosity. She lived a long and unique, fulfilling life. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. We will miss her sense of humor and her willingness to help always.
Elaine is survived by her three children, Dixie (Gary) Gibson, South Ogden; Leslie (Terry) Field, Grand View, ID; and Bruce (Debbie) Stephens, South Ogden; and one sister, Maxine Higdon. She had nine grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and one great-granddaughter, Katie Field.
Following her wishes a family graveside service was held on July 21, 2014. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Weber County Library Development Fund, 2464 Jefferson Ave, Ogden, UT 84401.
