Eleanor Livermore Corbett Bishop a" fondly known as "Billie", brightened and blessed the lives of many in her 96 years.
She peacefully passed away at Peach Tree Place, West Haven, Utah, surrounded by family December 22, 2010.
She was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma April 17, 1914 to Coach John Corbett and Mary Crandall Kingsley Corbett, and was the youngest of their five children.
The family moved to Laramie, Wyoming when Billie was a young girl where her father became Coach and Athletic Director at the University of Wyoming. Billie graduated from Laramie Prep High School, attended Colorado Women''s College two years (now Denver University) and graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1935 with a degree in French and Art. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and on U of Wyo. Women''s Rifle Team where she was the high individual score during her college days. She also excelled in tennis and ice-skating.
She married Loren Emerson Bishop of Douglas, Wyoming on August 28, 1935 at Saint Matthew''s Episcopal Cathedral in Laramie, Wyoming. She was a diligent military wife and stood faithfully by her husband''s side as he was stationed around the world serving our "Grand Old Flag".
She met raising four children during times of war with her husband gone, with optimism and courage as he served in World War II and the Korean War. She was a special reading teacher using the Spaulding Method. She served as Officers Wives President at several stations, PTA President and was a Girl Scout leader.
Billie loved being out in the beauties of nature. She enjoyed painting, good music and writing poetry. Several of her works have been published. She was awarded Honorable Mention for the Golden Poet Award in 1985, 1986, and first place in 1990. She was a life-long, enthusiastic, University of Wyoming, Cowboy fan.
After a military lifestyle, she and her husband, retired to Los Fresnos, Texas where they enjoyed the Texas sun, the beach at South Padre Island, and raising grapefruit and oranges that were the delight of their family. They moved to Bakersfield, CA in 2000 where they lived until failing health required assisted living care. They lived for several months in Jackson, WY before moving to their final home in Utah..
Billie found her deepest joy in her family, teaching them and delighting them with laughter, song and traditional Christian values.
She is survived by three of her four children. John Clark (Shirley, deceased) of Cheyenne,WY; Helen Bishop Thompson (Fred) of Roy, UT, and Raymond Corbett (Debra) of Jackson,Wy.; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grand children and two on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, a son, Loren Corbett Bishop, her parents and all her siblings (three brothers: John K. Corbett, Nelson P. Corbett, Dr. Raymond A. Corbett and one sister, Helen Corbett Cobb) No doubt, a wonderful celebration of reunion has taken place!
A truly gracious, gentle woman, Billie had a love of learning, a deep gratitude for God''s creations and a delightful sense of humor. She lived her life in gratitude to God and service to others. We have been incredibly blessed to have her as our mother, grand mother and great grandmother.
The family wishes to thank those at the Peachtree, Hospice of Utah, Carolina, Megan and Kim for their help, love and care of our precious mother.
