Eleanor Joanne Duvall, 74, a long-time Ogden resident, passed away peacefully at her home on July 3, 2023. She was born on October 20, 1948 in Watertown, New York to Florence Evelyn Williams and Alfred Thomas Elliott, the third of nine fierce and amazing children. Eleanor graduated from Mannsville-Manor Central School in 1966 and earned an Associate Degree from Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY in 1968. She later earned her Bachelor Degree from Weber State University.
She met Malcolm Frederick Duvall in Watertown, and after courting, they were married on October 15, 1968. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage prior to his passing on February 6, 2006.
Eleanor and Malcolm raised four children together, Michelle, Maurice, Pierre, and Monique. They raised their family in New York and later Coos Bay, Oregon and Bellingham, Washington, where Eleanor began working for the IRS. The family later moved to Ogden, Utah where they settled, and she continued with the Internal Revenue Service.
She retired from IRS in 2016. At that time her daughter, Michelle had passed away and Maurice was getting ill. He also preceded her in death in 2018.
Eleanor dealt with hard things but had a resilient spirit and a good sense of humor. Her hobbies included watching her favorite TV shows in later life, but as a child she was a very avid reader, and she also loved traveling. She was not a stranger to Fort Hall or Wendover. She liked to listen to music, especially when Monique would play the piano. Sundays were Oldies days and the house was always filled with upbeat vibes.
Eleanor and Malcolm adopted Buddhist philosophies and became close to many of the monks in the Ogden area. Color, light, meditation, and ways of kindness were their ways. They created a meditation center in Park Valley, UT near Snowville many years ago.
In recent years, Eleanor kept to herself. She was a deep thinker, but her friends are lifelong ones.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Pierre of Provo; daughter, Monique of Ogden; granddaughter, Megan (Brittain Switzer) Perry, Adams Center, NY; great-grandchildren, Zaydin and Azlynn; siblings, Roselyn Elliott (Lester Bares), Richmond, VA; Janet (Jerry) Morris, Tahlequah, OK; Alfred Elliott, Lorraine, NY; Frances Bates, Watertown, NY; Helen Bonaparte, Henderson, North Carolina; Steven Elliott, Adams Center, NY; Barbara Tifft, Ogdensburg, NY; and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and two children, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Gloria Barber; and by a number of her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
