Eleanor Jones

Our dearest mother, grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor, Alta Eleanor Jones returned to her Father in Heaven and husband, Joseph, Tuesday, September 4, 2007. She passed away in her home after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. She kept her spirits high and had that wonderful sense of humor that only she had, all the way through. She served her family and friends all her life always thinking of others right to the end. Her concerns were always for others.

She was born February 16, 1927 in Bountiful, Utah the daughter of John Walter and Vera Pratt Holbrook. She met Joseph L. Jones, Jr. and they were married on January 5, 1944 in Salt Lake City. On August 6, 1965 they married for eternity in the Logan LDS Temple.

Eleanor was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and loved to read stories of her pioneer ancestors. She served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Terrace 8th Ward most of her life. Her numerous callings involved countless hours of service and love to others. Her life revolved around this service, especially to her family. She did not care for the things of this world but loved the world around her immensely. She didn''t like recognition for herself but always praised the lives of those around her. One of her highlights in her adult life was graduating from high school and being Valedictorian at her graduation. She loved her family and friends, and all people. She judged no one and loved to have fun in her life. Her favorite things to do were to read, sew, and be in the outdoors, boating and traveling. She had a very kind, loving sense of humor that you could really enjoy while being around her. You could never be in her presence when you did not leave feeling better about yourself. Her warm smile and twinkling eyes will always be remembered.

She is survived by three sons, Joseph L. Jones, III, Ogden; Michael W. and Michele Jones, Syracuse; David C. and Alejandra Jones, Taylor; three daughters, Patricia Ann and Malcolm Masteller, Pleasant Grove; Pamela and Clive Ingram, Syracuse; and Pennie and Craig Carson, Edmond, OK. Also surviving are two brothers, Walter and Marjorie Holbrook, Bountiful; Don and Ann Holbrook, Bountiful; and one sister, whom she adored, Mary Holbrook, Salt Lake City.

She adored her 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was surrounded by their love to the end.

Alta was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Joseph L. Jones, Jr. They are now together again.

She loved her Savior and had a very strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and showed it by how she lived. She will be missed by all who knew her and we look forward to being with her gain.

Special thanks for those that gave her tender loving care and those at Horizon Hospice.
