Elfido (Al) E. Vigil

Al was the oldest son of Elfido Vigil Sr. and Marina (Martiez) Vigil. He passed away Friday, September 2, 2011 at home surrounded by his family and his loving wife of 65 years.

He was born August 23, 1921 in Espanola, NM. He married Louise Martinez November 23, 1945 in Santa Cruz, NM. He served his country faithfully during World War II where he was stationed in Europe earning four battle stars. He moved to Utah where he worked for the government at the Navy Supply Depot in Clearfield and when it closed he finished his 41-year civil service career at Defense Depot Ogden.

He loved spending time with his family and especially with the grandkids. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and all animals. He also liked watching westerns and cowboy and animal movies. He took pride in his yard and was also known for his large garden which included beautiful melons and red delicious apples. He was very generous with his fruits and vegetables with friends and family at harvest time. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Al is survived by his wife, Louise, two sons: Gene (Kathy) Vigil and Gerald Vigil, both of Clinton; daughter Arlette (John) Butts, Draper; daughter-in-law Chris Vigil, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also survived by nine brothers: Leo, Raymond, Ross, Sam, Danny, Joe, Pete, Rubel Salaz, Frank Salaz, and one sister Lidia.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Henry (Vietnam), and Roger; one brother George and two sisters, Carmon, and Lela.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 South Chapel St, Layton, UT. Friends may visit with family at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd, on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary at 8 p.m.

Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
