Elizabeth Anne Gilchrist Freitas, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Clearfield, Utah.
She was born on June 18, 1920 to David H. and Agnes V. Gilchrist in Olivia, MN. She attended school in Minnesota and during WWII she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. She served at Mare Island, CA where she met and married Frank C. Freitas Sr. on November 9, 1945. They raised their family in Stockton.
Betty was a wonderful mother, actively supporting her children in all their activities. She was a Bluebird leader and a fan of numerous sports, including Little League baseball, various school sports, and watching the 49ers and SF Giants with her family. She was past president and active member of Tuesday Club of Stockton and later the Women Marines Association. She was a member of Lincoln Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Frank Jr. She is survived by her daughter Marcia Perry of Layton, UT; son Bob (Suzanne) of Santa Cruz, CA; grandsons Frank Freitas, III of Lodi, Mark Perry(Rhonda) UT, Matt Freitas (Kimberly) of Pasadena, and Bobby Freitas of Santa Cruz; granddaughters Dacia (Rob) Collier, UT, and Anna Freitas of Santa Cruz; great-grandchildren Zack Perry, Jada Collier, and one on the way. She is also survived by her brother David "Bud" Gilchrist of MN and sister Margie Groman of AZ, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Though we all miss her, she has said, "Don''t cry for me. I''ve had a great life."
As per her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes scattered in California. A family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
