Elizabeth "Betty" Gleason

Elizabeth “Betty” Gleason OGDEN—Elizabeth “Betty” Gleason, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, June 14, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 6, 1925 in San Gabriel, California, the only child of Raymond Peter and Martha Jane Bills Dreiser. She graduated from both Alhambra High School and Pasadena City College where she met Ernest “Gene” Gleason. They married in 1946 in California, then solemnized their marriage a year later in the Idaho Falls temple. They lived in California before transferring to Utah in 1952 where they resided in Brigham City and later moved to Ogden where they settled and raised their three children. Betty and Gene always showed their family how couples should love and cherish each other. Betty remained active in the LDS Church receiving her Golden Gleaner Award when she was younger. She had many church callings which included Young Women’s president and counselor in Relief Society, as well as serving as chorister in the ward, Mutual, and Relief Society, and was a visiting teacher. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Betty enjoyed doing genealogy and presented each of her eleven grandchildren their own family history book when they graduated from high school. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing for her family. When the grandchildren were young, she made mama and papa bears for them as gifts for Christmas, and one year, she made all the granddaughters Cabbage Patch Dolls. Her other hobbies included ceramics, needlework, and gardening. She loved music and singing in groups and also traveling with her family. Betty’s family and church were the most important things in her life. She worked part-time as a maternity clerk at the old Dee and McKay-Dee hospitals for ten years then as a receptionist for Dr. H.D. Woods for seven years. Betty is survived by her daughter and two sons, Greg (Marcia) Gleason of Boise, Idaho, Christine (Jim) Larkin of Ogden, and Steve (Gina) Gleason of Ogden; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She loved family gatherings during the holidays. That’s our Mom! She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Waterfall Canyon Ward, 3254 Polk Ave in Ogden. Friends may visit family from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
